The Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) is a statutory body charged with the mandate to eliminate discrimination on the grounds of sex, marital status, pregnancy, breastfeeding, disability, family status and race, as well as to eliminate sexual harassment, breastfeeding harassment, and harassment and vilification on the grounds of disability and race. The EOC promotes equality of opportunities between men and women, between persons with and without a disability and irrespective of family status and race. It is the EOC’s vision to create a pluralistic and inclusive society free of discrimination where there is no barrier to equal opportunities. We are now looking for candidates who are passionate and committed to our mission and vision to apply for the following post in our Complaint Services Division.

(Monthly salary of HK$66,075 to HK$83,140, Two-year non-established position)

The Duties

  • Investigate into complaints lodged under the anti-discrimination legislation and make recommendations on the basis of information gathered;

  • Conduct conciliation to resolve disputes related to discrimination complaints;

  • Handle the EOC self-initiated/follow-up action on potential/possible unlawful acts of discrimination;

  • Answer public enquiries under the anti-discrimination legislation;

  • Participate and/or support senior officers in intra/inter-divisional projects and task groups; and

  • Undertake any other duties as assigned, including but not limited to internal transfer to other divisions within the EOC.

The Person

  • University graduate;

  • At least 5 years of full-time post-qualification relevant work experience, preferably in complaint handling, dispute resolution, investigation or conciliation in public organisations;

  • Training in dispute resolution/mediation, experience in law enforcement/public administration and/or legal knowledge would be an advantage;

  • Good understanding of issues relating to discrimination and equal opportunities;

  • Good analytical and critical thinking, communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, with a team-oriented mindset;

  • Good command of spoken and written Chinese and English; and 

  • Motivated and committed to the EOC’s vision, mission and values.

Appointment of this non-established position will be on two-year agreement terms renewable depending on service needs and performance.  The remuneration package will consist of a basic salary and a cash allowance in accordance with the EOC’s policy.  The appointee will also be eligible for a gratuity on completion of the agreement subject to satisfactory performance and conduct.

Appointee holding this non-established position with satisfactory performance may apply for transfer to other established positions of the same role or other roles within the EOC when suitable vacancies arise.
