GARMENT TECHNICIAN – ladies casual and fashion garment / retail brands / buying office (Lai Chi Kok)

COMPANY OVERVIEW 

• US-listed ladies apparel retailer with five own brands and more than 1,000 retail stores across the United States. The company offers a wide range of casual wear and fashion wear for ladies, focusing on affordable fashion in the low to middle price range.

• The Hong Kong office functions as a buying and sourcing office, working closely with the US headquarters, vendors and manufacturing partners across Asia to develop quality ladies’ apparel products for the US retail market.

ROLE MISSION

• You will support the development of ladies casual and fashion wear from design concept to production. 

• You will work closely with the Technical Design Manager, factories and internal teams to ensure products meet fit, quality, cost and delivery requirements.

ROLE SUMMARY

• You will review garment samples and assess their fit, construction, workmanship and overall quality. 

• You will interpret design intent, prepare or amend technical specifications and patterns when required, and work closely with factories and vendors to resolve technical and production issues. 

• You will also collaborate with merchandising, quality, product development and overseas technical teams to ensure products are delivered on time and meet the company’s quality and brand standards.

JOB DESCRIPTION

• Review garment samples for fit, balance, measurements, construction, sewing and overall workmanship.

• Identify potential production or quality issues and suggest practical solutions.

• Interpret design intent and support the preparation or amendment of technical specifications and patterns.

• Liaise with factory technicians, pattern makers and vendors to resolve fitting and construction issues.

• Work with merchandising, quality, product development and overseas technical teams to meet deadlines.

• Provide technical support and advice to vendors and factories.

• Participate in sample reviews and communicate technical feedback to relevant parties.

• Maintain technical records and product information for future reference.

• Travel to factories when required to resolve technical or production issues on site.

• Support ad-hoc projects and other duties as assigned.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

• Studies in Fashion, Textile Engineering, Technical Design or a related discipline is preferred.

• At least 2 years of experience in technical design, garment technology, fitting, pattern making or a related field.

• Experience in ladies’ casual wear, affordable fashion or high-volume retail products is preferred.

• Experience in a buying office, sourcing office, trading company or brand environment is an advantage.

• Good knowledge of garment construction, fitting, pattern making, grading and manufacturing processes.

• Able to work with factories, vendors and cross-functional teams in Hong Kong, China and overseas.

• Willing to travel to factories when required.

• Proficient in spoken and written English; ability to read and write Chinese is required.

• Knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, PLM systems and CAD software is an advantage.
