The Wu Jieh Yee School of Interdisciplinary Studies (WJYSIS) was established to deepen interdisciplinary studies and scholarly collaboration. The WJYSIS houses a number of interdisciplinary undergraduate programmes and now invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Teaching for the Global Development and Sustainability (GDS) programme. The WJYSIS is seeking a dynamic educator committed to fostering excellence through interdisciplinary teaching, while providing robust leadership in the day-to-day management and development of the GDS programme.
The appointee will be responsible for teaching core courses within the GDS programme, employing a comprehensive interdisciplinary approach to sustainable development. Candidates should be experienced in interdisciplinary, active, and project-based pedagogies, fostering an engaging learning environment that bridges theory and practice. All teaching will be conducted in English.
In addition to teaching, the appointee will:
- Engage in robust student advising and mentoring to support academic and professional development.
- Assume the role of Programme Director for GDS, providing leadership in programme management, curriculum enhancement, and strategic development.
- Contribute to departmental service and the continuous improvement of the student experience.
We welcome applications from candidates with expertise in fields related to global development and sustainability, including but not limited to human geography, environmental policy, sustainability economics, green urban design, humanitarian technology, climate change and public health, ecocultural tourism, biocultural diversity, community resilience, ESG and CSR. Priority will be given to candidates with interdisciplinary expertise.
Requirements
Candidates should have (i) a doctoral degree in relevant disciplines; and (ii) a minimum of 3 years’ experience in teaching relevant courses and relevant programme administrative experience.
Appointment
The conditions of appointment will be competitive. The remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity and incoming passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointee.
