PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT MANAGER – LED lighting, consumer electrical & electronic product manufacturer & exporter OEM / ODM (Kwai Fong/Dongguan/5 days work)

COMPANY OVERVIEW

• We are a long-established Hong Kong-based manufacturer and exporter with a major production base in Dongguan.

• Our core business is the design and manufacture of LED lighting and consumer electrical products.

• We also develop selected consumer electronic products, portable power products and other electrical products.

• Our product range includes LED bulbs, LED tubes, table lamps, desk lamps, night lights, torches, pen lights, diving torches, emergency lights, work lamps, spotlights and rechargeable lighting products.

• Our wider product range includes wearable LED headlamps, inspection lights, portable inverters, rechargeable fans, wireless speakers, electronic toys and personal-care electrical products.

• We provide complete OEM and ODM services for international customers, including product design, customisation, prototyping, testing and mass production.

• We serve international customers through branded, customised, private-label and OEM/ODM product programmes.

ROLE MISSION

• Lead the R&D function for the company’s LED lighting, consumer electrical and selected consumer electronic product lines.

• Drive new product development from concept to mass production.

• Improve product design, performance, safety, quality and cost effectiveness.

• Support the factory and commercial teams in delivering innovative, reliable and commercially successful products.

ROLE SUMMARY

• This is a hands-on R&D leadership role.

• You will lead the R&D team and manage product development projects from the initial concept to production launch.

• You will work closely with Hong Kong management, production, quality, procurement and sales teams.

• The role covers new product development, product improvement, prototype development, product testing and project coordination.

• You will ensure that products meet customer requirements, safety standards, quality expectations, cost targets and production requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead, supervise and develop the R&D team.

• Develop new products and improve existing products in the LED lighting, consumer electrical and consumer electronic categories.

• Manage projects from product concept and specifications to prototype, testing, pilot production and mass production.

• Work with customers to understand product requirements, technical specifications, branding needs and customisation requests.

• Support OEM and ODM projects, including product design, product modification and new product customisation.

• Review product concepts and assess design feasibility, materials, components, tooling requirements and production methods.

• Work closely with the factory on design for manufacturing, assembly processes, material selection and production efficiency.

• Prepare and review product specifications, drawings, bills of materials and technical documents.

• Manage prototype development, engineering builds, product verification and design changes.

• Arrange and monitor functional, reliability, safety, charging, ageing, environmental, vibration, temperature, salt-spray, photometric and other required tests.

• Ensure products meet applicable customer requirements and international standards, such as UL and CE, where required.

• Review product performance, quality, safety, appearance and user experience.

• Identify opportunities to reduce product cost without compromising safety, quality or performance.

• Work with quality, production, procurement and suppliers to resolve technical and product-related issues.

• Liaise with suppliers, testing laboratories and technical partners when necessary.

• Monitor market trends, new technologies and competitor products to identify new product opportunities.

• Prepare development schedules and ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.

• Support pilot production, production validation and the smooth transfer of new products to mass production.

• Provide technical support to the sales and commercial teams during customer presentations and product discussions.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

• University degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Product Design or a related discipline.

• Strong experience in R&D, product development or engineering within a manufacturing environment.

• Experience in LED lighting, consumer electrical products or consumer electronics is highly preferred.

• Good knowledge of product design, electromechanical systems, LED technology, batteries, charging systems, materials and manufacturing processes.

• Practical experience in prototype development, product testing, design validation and production transfer.

• Familiar with moulding, injection moulding, metal parts, CNC components, PCB assembly and final product assembly processes.

• Knowledge of product safety requirements, reliability testing and international product standards.

• Experience in OEM and ODM product development and customer-driven product customisation.

• Strong project management, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

• Able to lead, coach and develop an R&D team.
