The Department of Curriculum and Instruction of the Faculty of Education at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is a dynamic centre in the Asia-Pacific region for teaching and research in the broad areas of curriculum and instruction. In addition to Faculty-based undergraduate teacher education, Postgraduate Diploma in Education, Master of Education, Doctor of Education and PhD programmes, the Department offers several Master of Arts/ Science programmes as well as research supervision across a range of subject areas. The Faculty of Education of CUHK is an international centre for professional training and research in education. The Department now invites applications for a full-time appointment as Professor/ Associate Professor/ Assistant Professor in Mathematics Education. Applicants should have (i) excellent academic qualifications including a relevant doctoral degree; (ii) a demonstrated track record of active research and high-quality publications in mathematics education which are world-leading and internationally excellent; and (iii) a strong commitment to excellence in mathematics education and related fields, such as STEAM education, particularly through the use of innovative pedagogies and emerging technologies (e.g., the integration of artificial intelligence into learning and teaching in K–12 and higher education contexts). Research, professional and service experience in the field locally, in neighbouring communities (e.g., the Greater Bay Area), and internationally would be and additional advantage. Applicants for appointment as Professor / Associate Professor are expected to have an established programme of research and a strong record of high-quality publications, together with a track record of success in obtaining competitive research grants, invitations to speak at major international academic meetings, and supervision of research postgraduate students.

The appointee will be expected to (a) teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels (areas include foundations of mathematics curriculum and instruction, pedagogical content knowledge in various mathematical domains, contemporary theories and research methods for mathematics education research, and STEAM education); (b) undertake scholarly research and seek external competitive research grants; (c) supervise graduate students; (d) conduct teaching practicum supervision; and (e) lead programme development and innovations in learning and teaching.

Application Procedure

Appointment will normally be made on contract basis for up to three years initially, which, subject to funding and mutual agreement, may lead to longer-term appointment or substantiation.
