The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS) at the City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) invites applications for the position of Senior Teaching Fellow, Teaching Fellow, Instructor I, or Instructor II in Ruminant Clinical Practice.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a vibrant academic and clinical team committed to excellence in veterinary education, clinical service, and research. The successful candidate will contribute significantly to the training of future veterinarians while supporting cattle health, welfare, and production at the University's state-of-the-art teaching farm.
Duties
The appointee will:
Contribute to the mission of VCS by advancing veterinary education, clinical research, and community engagement at local and international levels;
Contribute to a collaborative learning environment and support the development of clinical teaching activities;
Teach across the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM) curriculum, ensuring students achieve Day 1 competencies in ruminant handling, husbandry, health, and production;
Supervise and lead veterinary students during clinical rotations in ruminant practice;
Support the Farm Manager and veterinary staff at the CityUHK Farm by providing veterinary services, nutritional advice, and case management for cattle;
Participate in on-call clinical support and emergency services as required; and
Perform administrative duties as required by the Head of Department.
Requirements
Applicants must:
Hold a veterinary qualification recognised for registration as a veterinary surgeon by the Veterinary Surgeons Board of Hong Kong (VSB);
Demonstrate experience and competence in cattle practice or mixed-animal practice, including routine and basic surgical procedures;
Be capable of working independently in a clinical environment;
Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills; and
Demonstrate the ability to lead small teams and progressively take responsibility for after-hours emergency management.
Have an interest in veterinary teaching and education, with some prior teaching experience or educational training preferred.
The ability to communicate in Cantonese and/or Putonghua is advantageous but not essential.
In addition to the requirements stated above, applicants seeking appointment at a specific grade must also satisfy the relevant grade requirements detailed below.
Candidates for Senior Teaching Fellow should have substantial professional experience, expertise and recognisable achievements in non-academic settings; a higher degree with a distinguished record of teaching and administration, contribution to instructional development, with demonstrated experience and accomplishment in curriculum planning and student supervision; and other relevant qualities such as consultancy, service in professional bodies, etc.
Candidates for Teaching Fellow should have good professional experience and expertise in non-academic settings, a higher degree with experience in teaching and administration; and other qualities such as consultancy, service in professional bodies, etc.
Candidates for Instructor I should have a recognised degree plus postgraduate qualification and 4 years’ appropriate postgraduate full-time teaching experience. Candidates with less relevant experience may be considered for appointment as Instructor II.
Salary and Conditions of Service
Remuneration package will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract; fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes.
