We are now looking for a suitable person to fill the following position in Office for Advancement of Learning and Teaching (ALTO):

Systems Analyst / Analyst Programmer (ALTO) (Ref: 26001SW)

Major Duties and Responsibilities

The appointee will be responsible mainly for the following:

  • Designing, developing, testing, and deploying AI-driven systems for enhancing teaching and learning.

  • Administering, maintaining, and enhancing existing systems.

  • Enhancing multimedia components and implementing interactive activities/components for courses to support AI-driven learning experiences.

  • Providing technical support to end-users, particularly in the context of AI tools and applications.

  • Undertaking other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Advancement of Learning and Teaching and his/her nominees.

Candidates

Candidates should possess the following qualifications, experience and competence:

  • A recognised bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related discipline.

  • At least 2 years’ post-qualification experience in system development, programming, or web application design, preferably involving AI-related projects. Candidates with less experience may be considered for appointment as Analyst Programmer.

  • Practical experience or demonstrable knowledge in prompt engineering for AI or LLM-enabled applications, including designing and refining system prompts, user prompts, prompt templates, few-shot examples, and structured-output requirements.

  • Proficiency to test, evaluate, and iteratively enhance LLM prompts and responses using representative scenarios and defined quality criteria, including accuracy, relevance, consistency, safety, and handling of unexpected or ambiguous user inputs.

  • Proficiency in backend language, such as Python and Node.js, and experience with at least one corresponding web framework (such as Django, FastAPI, Next.js, or Nest.js).

  • Proficiency in front-end development using modern technologies such as React, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3, and JSON.

  • Solid knowledge of relational databases and SQL (e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL or other RDBMS).

  • Familiarity with modern software development workflows and system architecture, including version control (Git), basic CI/CD practices, and containerization tools such as Docker.

  • Awareness of information security and compliance requirements in system design and deployment.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate institutional and user needs into practical technical solutions.

  • A good command of English.

Candidates may be invited to attend a written test.
