TECHNICAL MANAGER – Home Furniture Product Development & Quality - - global trading & sourcing co (Shenzhen office)

COMPANY OVERVIEW

• We provide end-to-end sourcing, product development and supply chain solutions to international customers. Our services cover product research, design development, technical support, quality control, factory coordination and delivery management. Our vendor factories are located mainly in China and Southeast Asia. 

• The Hong Kong office has approximately 100 employees and works closely with our global office network. 

• The Shenzhen office is our main office in China, with approximately 120 employees, and works closely with the Hong Kong office and overseas customers.

ROLE MISSION

• You will lead the China Technical Team and ensure that furniture products are developed and produced according to customer requirements, technical specifications, quality standards and cost targets.

• You will work closely with overseas customers, merchandising teams, vendors, quality teams and internal departments. Your goal will be to improve product quality, control technical risks, support cost optimisation and ensure smooth product development and production.

ROLE SUMMARY

• Reporting to the COO of the Shenzhen office, you will lead a Technical Team of approximately six to seven members.

• You will manage the technical execution of furniture product development from the early development stage through to production. You will also support product improvement, design optimisation, factory assessment, technical problem-solving and quality issue resolution.

• The role requires strong furniture knowledge, leadership skills, business awareness and the ability to communicate with customers and suppliers in China and overseas.

• Some travel within China and Southeast Asia is required.

JOB DESCRIPTION

• Lead and manage the China Technical Team of approximately six to seven members.

• Supervise the complete technical process of furniture product development.

• Ensure that the team meets technical, quality, cost and delivery requirements.

• Lead new product development and product improvement projects.

• Review product designs, structures, materials and construction methods.

• Identify opportunities to reduce product costs and improve market competitiveness.

• Analyse market requirements and accurately understand customers’ technical specifications.

• Ensure that products meet the standards and requirements of US and UK customers.

• Provide professional technical support to the merchandising and product-development teams.

• Assist with technical problems, product structure issues and production-cost optimisation.

• Review product samples, drawings, specifications and technical documents.

• Monitor the performance and operating costs of the Technical Team.

• Conduct regular technical audits and performance assessments of vendor factories.

• Ensure that vendors follow the required technical specifications and quality standards.

• Investigate and resolve technical quality disputes and customer claims between customers and vendors.

• Work with vendors and customers to agree on corrective actions and practical solutions.

• Identify potential workflow, production and quality risks.

• Recommend preventive actions and process improvements.

• Lead the implementation of PIP and CAP corrective-action plans.

• Work closely with the QA and Quality Teams to organise cross-department training and workshops.

• Provide training on furniture knowledge, production methods, workmanship and inspection standards.

• Coordinate with overseas customers and internal teams on technical matters.

• Support other technical and business projects as assigned.

• Travel within China and Southeast Asia when required.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

• Tertiary education in Engineering, Forestry, Furniture Design, Wood Technology or a related discipline is preferred.

• At least 10 years of relevant experience in the home furniture industry.

• At least 5 years of experience in a technical management or managerial position.

• Strong technical knowledge of indoor and outdoor furniture products.

• Good knowledge of furniture materials, construction, production methods and workmanship.

• Familiar with international furniture quality standards and the requirements of US and UK customers.

• Experience in product development, technical sourcing, factory assessment, quality improvement or vendor management.

• Strong understanding of product structure, cost optimisation and production processes.

• Good command of English and Mandarin.

• Able to communicate effectively with overseas customers, factories and internal teams.

• Willing to travel within China and Southeast Asia when required.
