Office of the Chief Information Officer
The Office of the Chief Information Officer () provides essential IT services supporting the University’s teaching, learning, research and administrative activities with a strong emphasis on staff development and professional growth. We are seeking an experienced and forward‑thinking IT Manager to join our Student Administration Team.https://www.eduhk.hk/ocio
Key Responsibilities
The appointee will be responsible for:
Leading a team of technical staff, providing direction, coaching, workload planning, and performance management to ensure high‑quality service delivery;
User requirements gathering, system design, development, testing and documentation in collaboration with stakeholders to ensure system alignment with institutional goals;
Vendor management;
Maintenance of the student information system, admissions system, and other student administration-related systems; and
Perform any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate should have:
A recognized Bachelor’s Degree or above in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related disciplines, with preferably 8 years of relevant full-time post-qualification work experience gained in a sizeable IT environment;
Proven team leadership experience, including mentoring staff, coordinating work assignments, and ensuring effective team performance;
Solid experience and knowledge in web application development, including Java/J2EE, Spring Boot (on JBOSS EAP / Tomcat), SQL, PL/SQL, and frontend technologies such as Vue.js, React.js, and modern frameworks (e.g., Material-UI, Bootstrap 5);
Experience with containerisation technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and microservices architecture would be an advantage;
Solid understanding of DevOps practices and tools, including CI/CD pipelines, version control, automated testing, and deployment automation;
Solid understanding of UI/UX design principles to create intuitive and engaging user experiences across digital platforms;
Knowledge of the Ellucian Banner ERP system is a strong plus;
Experience in developing and implementing AI/ML algorithms to enhance system capabilities and user experience would be an advantage;
Excellent command of English and Chinese, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, work independently, and think proactively; and
Strong analytical, problem-solving and interpersonal skills; and be a good team player.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract. Fringe benefits include the University’s Voluntary Contributions to MPF Scheme or a contract-end lump sum payment (totaling up to 10% of the basic salary), leave, medical and dental benefits. The appointee will hold a substantive rank of Computer Officer in the University.
