The Center for Language Education (CLE) at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is seeking a full-time/part-time Research Assistant to support an interdisciplinary teaching and learning project involving artificial intelligence, writing assessment, and educational technology. The appointee will work closely with academic staff and student developers on the technical development, testing, implementation, and classroom piloting of an AI-supported learning platform.

Major duties of the appointee include:

• Supporting the development, testing, implementation, and maintenance of the project platform;
• Assisting with the integration and testing of AI-supported functions and related digital tools;
• Coordinating with student developers and supporting classroom pilot activities;
• Troubleshooting technical issues and contributing to system improvement;
• Assisting with technical documentation, data preparation, analysis, and project reporting; and
• Performing other project-related duties as assigned.

Applicants should possess a bachelor’s degree or above in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Information Technology, Educational Technology, Computational Linguistics, or a related discipline. They should have proficiency in Python and experience in web application development. Familiarity with large language models, AI APIs, databases, natural language processing, or related technologies is expected. (Duration: 1 year, with the possibility of extension)

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits, where applicable, will be provided in accordance with the terms and conditions of appointment.
