在日本云云的吉祥物中，令你印象最深的是哪一隻？滋賀縣彥根市的「彥根貓」、拉麵碗戴在頭上的栃木縣佐野市「佐野丸」、抑或是愛媛縣的人氣黃色小雞「小治先生」？ 他╱她們的共通點是擁有足以讓Facebook洗版的可愛外觀，以及令人哭笑不得的「肢體語言」；他們之所以能在全日本數千隻吉祥物中脫穎而出，肯定有獨門的「出位」之道，令人留下深刻印象。要數歷來最成功的吉祥物，則不得不提粉絲遍布亞洲，數度應邀出訪中、港、台，並曾奪得2011年日本吉祥物票選冠軍的熊本縣宣傳大使熊本熊( Kumanon )。 日本央行估計，熊本熊過去3年的產值高達1,232億日圓(約93億港元)。根據行銷公司Character databank調查，熊本熊僅用３年時間已在好感度和商品購買欲上成功超越Hello Kitty和米奇老鼠。在這股「萌熊」的熱潮下，「熊本熊體操」已成為眾多小學及幼稚園學生的表演活動，汽車品牌寶馬及本田已相繼為其粉絲推出Crossover汽車款式，而1,500隻高價「泰迪Kumanon」僅5秒便在網上售罄！熊本熊的成功案例被國際傳媒《華爾街日報》廣泛報道，其幕後推手蒲島郁夫更先後被應邀到東京大學及哈佛大學作即席分享。
