不知不覺又到了六至八月的畢業季節，以往應屆畢業生在此時應有份十拿九穏的offer，但今年全球經濟放緩，各大公司相繼裁員、減薪等。面對此情此景，毫無經驗的社會新鮮人一定感到非常迷惘和苦惱。面對眼下嚴峻的挑戰到底要找跟自己本科有關的，還是開發新天地，考慮加入在學期間沒接觸過的行業呢？考慮投入學科以外行業的一群，內心定必擔心入錯行、搵錯工，到發現時又會否來得太遲等等。對於初入職場的新鮮人，畢業後第一份工當然萬分重要，但是，它對每個人的影響其實又有多深遠呢？ 傳統觀念： 擴闊眼界 加入有規模的公司 初出茅廬，加入一家國際企業、為自己的履歷展開亮麗開端，是很多畢業生的選擇。上一代的前輩大多數會在大企業打工，留上一段長時間；但是現代的年輕打工族一般不會在同一公司留太長時間，即使加入了有名的大公司，也希望能換轉到不同的部門吸收更廣的營運或商務經驗，所以永遠停留一處的人，實在是少之又少。
「新冠病毒」毫不留情地在全球肆虐了整個春季後，踏入五月份局部地區的疫情似乎有緩和的跡象。同時，雖然針對性疫苗的誕生暫時仍遙遙無期，但至少有報導指獲美國政府緊急批准使用的「瑞德西韋」初步好像有點效用。
Applying for a job can be a daunting task. There is so much to do — finding the right role to apply for, updating your CV, going to an interview — all of these are important steps that must be done well. Writing a cover letter can therefore sometimes seem less important when faced with other important tasks. But a good covering letter can make the difference between rejection and progressing to an interview. Let’s look at how to tackle this all-important piece of work. What is the purpose of a cover letter?
Last week we talked about the importance of simplicity, clarity and accuracy, as well as the basics of how to organise your CV. We also mentioned the importance of clearly displaying your contact details at the top of the first page. How do I shape my CV to the job?
With any CV, you can be sure that it will be looked at both quickly and critically. Simplicity, clarity and accuracy are the keys to getting through the first door — but what is that first door? Employers do not have time to spend hours looking at every CV. Those first few seconds are crucial. What’s more, the first glance at your CV will be to see if you, the candidate, meet the essential requirements. If you do not demonstrate that you meet them or if your information is unclear, your CV will head straight to the recycling bin.
When hiring, you don’t want to be wasting time meeting candidates who don’t meet the requirements of the job. Instead, your goal should be to narrow down the candidate pool to a manageable size so you can better identify the candidates who will be right for your role.
