Over the past 60 years global sales of LEGO bricks have topped 320 billion - roughly the equivalent of 52 LEGO bricks for each of the world's 6 billion inhabitants. We have been making LEGO products since 1932, and today we are the only European toy manufacturer in the Top Ten of the World's Best-selling Toys. Our workforce comprises 8,000 LEGO enthusiasts - 4,000 of them work in Billund, the remainders are spread worldwide.
Right from the outset in the 1930s the company's motto has been "Only the best is good enough". So we have continuously reviewed our environmental and safety policies, making sure that our minimum standard was at least equal to the most stringent in the world.
It isn't possible to buy shares in the LEGO Company because it is a family-owned enterprise. But once a year we do publish an annual report, giving a statistical outline of the past 12 months.
By the way, we are also the world's biggest manufacturer of vehicle tyres: in 2000 the LEGO Company produced no fewer than 306 million of them.
