Being the first such institution in the region, the School was founded to nurture a new generation of interdisciplinary artists and creative media professionals, and to develop new ideas and technologies for the creative industries in Hong Kong, Mainland China, and abroad. Now over two decades later, it continues to espouse and advance these aims as the clear leader in its field.
Students are trained across a range of practical disciplines spanning digital media art, animation, film, photography, and computer games. The School bridges the boundaries between art, technology, and computer science, and between traditional and new media, as well as seeking to combine creativity both with critical thinking and with an entrepreneurial vision.
Its internationally recruited faculty members are amongst the foremost artists and researchers in the field. They bring a global perspective and have forged many institutional partnerships for the School. Graduates have consistently demonstrated high employability, with over 90% now working as independent artists and professionals in the creative industries, film, television, advertising, publishing, gaming, media production and post-production. Many have won prestigious international and local awards for creative and technical innovation.
The School offers teaching loads commensurate with the requirements of a research university, start-up research grants, and ample opportunities for professional development.
Duties
The appointee will contribute to teaching and research in “Influencer Studies”. S/he is expected to make significant contributions to teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels in areas such as social media cultures, creator economies, platform studies, digital identity, audience engagement, online communities, branding, content strategy, and emerging forms of networked cultural production; advise postgraduate research students; play an active role in curriculum development; maintain an active research profile; actively seek external grants and contracts to support research endeavours; provide service to the School and University governance; and contribute to professional engagement, networking, and outreach activities that enhance the academic and professional life of the School.
Requirements
A PhD in related disciplines, with expertise in influencer cultures and contemporary social media ecosystems. Candidates should have knowledge of creator economies, algorithmic visibility, platform governance, audience analytics, digital labour, and cross-platform content production. S/he should have a publication record, appropriate to his/her rank, in the fields of Influencer Studies, Digital Media Studies, Platform Studies, or Internet Culture, or related areas, and a track record of successful research projects and grant applications. Candidates with recognised creative media practice or industry experience are welcome to apply.
Candidates for the post of Chair Professor/Professor should possess distinguished qualifications and a strong record of achievement in scholarship, teaching, research, and academic leadership. They should also demonstrate experience in administration and active involvement in professional and community activities.
Candidates for Associate Professor should have an outstanding record of scholarly achievements in both teaching and research, together with a strong record of securing competitive research grants and/or experience in academic management.
Candidates for Assistant Professor should have a solid record of, or demonstrate potential for, scholarly achievements in both teaching and research.
Salary and Conditions of Service
Remuneration package will be driven by market competitiveness and individual performance. Excellent fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes, and relocation assistance (where applicable). Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract.
