Applications are invited for : 

Director of Student Development Services [Ref. R/262/26] 

Reporting to the Dean of Students, the appointee will lead a team of professional staff in the Student Development Services (SDS) to provide student services including but not limited to counselling, psychological education, internship, career development, community engagement, cultural programmes, leadership and life skills training, physical education, development of sports teams, management of sports facilities, financial assistance, scholarship, welfare service, and support to student bodies. SDS is committed to providing students with freedom, opportunities, resources and personal support which enhance their own personal and professional development. 

Duties

1. Provide strategic and intellectual leadership for the development of SDS in alignment with the University’s Strategic Plan;

2. Promote holistic student development and education across campus while sustaining a caring campus culture;

3. Build and maintain effective and positive relationships with academic and administrative units, employers, students and student bodies;

4. Anticipate and address students’ financial and non-financial needs in support of their personal ana professional development;

5. Contribute policy formulation and operational strategies to student services and student affairs;

6. Broaden students’ international and regional perspectives and exposure;

7. Maintain quality facilities for counselling, employment, sports and cultural activities, and offer quality programmes to enhance students’ whole-person development;

8. Strengthen the University’s profile through sustained collaboration with external organisations and professional associations, sports teams’ performance, and representation at formal external functions;

9. Lead four Associate Directors overseeing counselling, career and leadership, student life and resources, and physical education and sports; and

10. Uphold the professional competence, ethics and commitment of SDS staff. 

Requirements

1. A postgraduate degree in a relevant discipline with substantial tracked management experience at a senior level and serving young people, preferably in the tertiary education sector;

2. Extensive experience in liaising with industry, community and engaging in international outreach in enhancing student development;

3. Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to plan strategically, handle crises and complex issues tactfully in a fast-changing environment;

4. Excellent communication, interpersonal, problem-solving and negotiation skills; and

5. Excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua). 

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract; fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes.
