Hospital Chief Executive (Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital)

Pay:

This is a senior executive role and will be remunerated accordingly and commensurate with the skills, knowledge and experience of the successful applicant.

[Up to 15% of total basic salary (after deducting the contribution of Mandatory Provident Fund by Hospital Authority) as end-of-contract gratuity may be offered to contract staff upon completion of the contract subject to satisfactory performance.]

 

Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH) was the first new hospital built after the inception of the Hospital Authority (HA) in 1990. Situated in the mid-levels of Chai Wan over a 10-hectare site area, PYNEH commenced service provision on 15 October 1993. PYNEH is an acute hospital in the HK Island Cluster and provides a comprehensive range of inpatient and outpatient services in General Medicine, Surgery, Neurosurgery, Paediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Orthopaedics & Traumatology, Clinical Oncology, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, Anaesthesia, Intensive Care, Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, Clinical Pathology, Psychiatry, Oral-maxillofacial Surgery & Dental and various allied health services. It also provides a 24-hour Accident & Emergency service with one of the two Emergency Radiation Treatment Centres in the HA, as well as extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) therapy. As at 31 March 2026, the Hospital has a total of 1,933 beds and a workforce of 5,787 staff.

 

Job

Successful candidate will report to Cluster Chief Executive of Hong Kong Island and the Hospital Governing Committee of PYNEH. He/she will be the overall manager of the hospital with the following key responsibilities:

  1. To lead the management team, health care professionals and supporting staff in the hospital to ensure its effective provision of quality patient-centred health care service.
  2. To establish and implement strategic directions, operational objectives, plans and policies for the hospital to maximize and further its potential.
  3. To manage the daily operations of the hospital and work closely with the community and other relevant key stakeholders to achieve the highest level of performance.
  4. To manage the budget and resources within the hospital and be accountable for the results.
  5. To contribute to the effective and efficient management of the Cluster by participating in relevant management groups.

 

Requirements

  1. Tertiary education.
  2. Considerable senior management experience in health care services.
  3. Good knowledge of and relevant experience in the operation of public hospitals preferably in Hong Kong.
  4. Strong leadership qualities as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  5. Analytical, innovative and committed to achieving strategic results.
  6. Possession of medical/healthcare administration qualification is a definite advantage. For applicants who are registered medical practitioners, possession of Fellowship or Associate Fellowship of Hong Kong College of Community Medicine is an added advantage.
  7. Demonstrated success in leading a multi-disciplinary team.
