Role Mission
- To protect the company's financial and operational interests by managing end-to-end marine cargo and liability claims, investigating incidents, and liaising with insurers, P&I Clubs, and global stakeholders.
- Ensure accurate claims handling, risk mitigation, and proactive guidance to commercial and logistics teams.
Role Summary
- Working independently and reporting directly to the Director, you will take full ownership of the claims function, from incident investigation to settlement negotiation.
- This is a high-impact role requiring strong technical expertise in maritime law and marine insurance, as well as excellent negotiation and communication skills.
Job Description
- Handle end-to-end marine cargo losses, damages, shortages, and theft claims. Evaluate liability, interpret policy terms, and negotiate settlements with cargo owners, insurers, and freight forwarders.
- Investigate maritime incidents (e.g., vessel damage, stevedore damage, temperature deviations in reefers, general average situations). Gather evidence such as Bills of Lading, sea protests, logbooks, and survey reports.
- Appoint and manage maritime surveyors, adjusters, and legal counsel globally. Liaise directly with P&I (Protection & Indemnity) Clubs, Hull & Machinery (H&M) underwriters, and cargo insurers.
- Maintain accurate claims registers and reserves. Analyze claims data to identify trends, root causes, and provide actionable risk-mitigation recommendations to operational teams.
- Provide internal guidance to commercial and logistics teams regarding liability clauses, standard operating procedures, and risk exposure in contracts and bills of lading.
Ideal Candidates
- Minimum of 3–5 years of direct experience handling marine cargo and/or marine liability claims within an international shipping line, logistics/freight forwarding provider, P&I Club, or marine insurance brokerage.
- Bachelor's degree preferably in Maritime Studies, Marine Insurance, Law, Logistics/Supply Chain Management, or a related discipline.
- Strong foundational understanding of international maritime conventions (e.g., Hague-Visby Rules, Hamburg Rules, Rotterdam Rules) and standard contract terms (Incoterms, Bills of Lading, Charterparties).
- Proven ability to interpret Marine Cargo insurance policies, P&I Club rules, and H&M clauses.
- Strong negotiation skills with a track record of resolving disputed or high-value claims amicably and cost-effectively.
- Proficient in verbal and written English communication skills, with the ability to convey complex legal or technical insurance matters clearly to global stakeholders.
- High level of accuracy and organizational skills to manage multiple claim files simultaneously.
