MATERIAL SOURCING SPECIALIST – Fashion Leather Handbag - European Sourcing Office (Lai Chi Kok)

• The Hong Kong office is the group’s sourcing and production office. We work closely with the European headquarters and suppliers to support the development and production of fashion handbags for international markets.

• The office mainly handles fashion handbags, especially leather handbags, and related fashion accessories. Our work covers material sourcing, product development, merchandising, production follow-up, quality coordination and supplier management.

ROLE MISSION

• To source, develop and manage leather materials for premium fashion handbags, ensuring that all materials meet the required design, quality, colour, performance, cost and delivery standards.

ROLE SUMMARY

• You will be responsible for sourcing and developing leather materials for three international premium fashion brands.

• Your responsibilities will cover supplier and tannery sourcing, leather selection, material development, sample follow-up, price negotiation, quality coordination, testing, order follow-up and material delivery.

• You will work closely with the European headquarters, R&D, design, merchandising and QA teams, as well as leather suppliers and tanneries. You will manage supplier relationships and coordinate the complete leather-sourcing process to ensure that suitable materials are developed and delivered on time.

JOB DESCRIPTION

• Source leather materials for the production of premium fashion handbags.

• Identify, evaluate and develop suitable leather suppliers, tanneries and material vendors.

• Research new leather qualities, finishes, colours, textures and treatments.

• Review supplier collections, leather samples, colour cards and material swatches.

• Recommend leather materials that match product designs, brand requirements and seasonal collections.

• Communicate leather specifications, colour standards, finishing requirements and quality expectations to suppliers.

• Coordinate leather development with the European headquarters, R&D, design, merchandising and QA teams.

• Follow up on leather samples, colour approvals, testing, revisions and final confirmations.

• Assess leather quality, appearance, thickness, softness, grain, texture, colour consistency and performance.

• Coordinate testing requirements, including colour fastness, abrasion, adhesion, flexibility and other relevant tests.

• Work with suppliers and QA colleagues to resolve quality issues and implement corrective actions.

• Negotiate leather prices, minimum order quantities, lead times, payment terms and delivery arrangements.

• Compare supplier quotations and provide sourcing recommendations to management.

• Monitor leather availability, production capacity, lead times and supplier performance.

• Follow up on leather orders from material approval through to final delivery.

• Ensure that approved leather qualities, colours and specifications are maintained throughout production.

• Maintain accurate records of leather samples, supplier information, test reports, prices and approvals.

• Monitor market trends and introduce new leather materials and sourcing opportunities.

• Travel for supplier meetings, material reviews, sample evaluation and other sourcing activities as required.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

• At least 8 years of relevant experience in leather-related sourcing, material development, leather merchandising or leather production.

• At least 3 years of experience in leather-material sourcing for the production of leather fashion handbags.

• Experience sourcing leather for international fashion brands is highly preferred.

• Strong experience working with leather suppliers, tanneries or handbag manufacturers.

• Good knowledge of different leather types, finishes, textures, colours, thickness, grain and quality standards.

• Good understanding of leather testing, inspection procedures and common leather quality issues.

• Strong understanding of how leather materials are used in handbag construction and product development.

• Good supplier-management, negotiation and follow-up skills.

• Good colour and material sensitivity with strong attention to detail.

• Experience monitoring material costs, lead times, supplier capacity and delivery schedules.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.

• Good command of English, Cantonese and Mandarin.

• Willing and able to travel regularly for business to visit leather suppliers, tanneries, material vendors and other business partners.
