We are currently recruiting for the following position:

The Library Assistant supports the Librarians in providing a high-quality library program to all stakeholders (students, parents, faculty, and staff) and ensuring the smooth operations of the library. This position focuses on providing strong customer service, as well as cataloguing and circulation support services, and tackling general administrative tasks.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Patron Support

  • Provide reference services to faculty, staff, students, and parents and help them be more effective in the use of library facilities and services.

  • Support curricular goals with teachers' input.

 

Learning Environment

  • Reenforce rules and norms in order to provide an environment that is safe and conducive to reading andstudying. Ensure that an atmosphere of welcome, helpfulness, and respect is presented to all users.

  • Assist with displays and promotional materials to foster an awareness of library resources and services.

 

Library Procedures

  • Assist the Librarian in facilitating library programs and special events.

 

Purchasing

  • Assist the Librarian in sourcing and acquiring suitable materials and carry out ordering and purchasing procedures, as well as the processing and recording of payment.

 

Cataloguing

  • Catalogue new materials in coordination with the Librarian to help maintain collections that are current.

  • Ensure materials are appropriately prepared and arranged for stakeholders use.

 

Circulation Procedures

  • Provide circulation services by checking in and out books for users.

  • Handle interlibrary loans, follow up and deal with overdue and lost books, facilitate student withdrawals, produce library reports/analysis

 

Materials Maintenance

  • Ensure that damaged materials are repaired and or replaced in order that collections are kept in good condition and visually appealing.

  • Carry out bookshelf management together with other library staff to ensure that materials are appropriately placed and located.

 

Other

  • Undertake other duties and functions as required that will impact and strengthen the contributions of the department and overall operations of the school.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Library Diploma or Certificate preferred.

 

Experience:

  • Experience with computerized library systems preferred

  • Experience with Internet search engines and online databases

  • Experience with word-processing and publishing software

  • Experience with school libraries an advantage

  • Experience in English speaking, multi-cultural environments

 

Required skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with children and adults

  • Excellent spoken and written English language skills, with additional Cantonese and Mandarin skills is an advantage

  • Good problem-solving and analytic skills

  • An interest in and knowledge of literature, especially for the Lower/ Upper Primary grades
