We are now looking for a suitable person to fill the following position in the School of Nursing and Health Sciences:

 

Postdoc (N&HS) (Ref: 2600245)

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities

The appointee will be responsible mainly for the following:

  • Design and conduct experiments in protein biochemistry, enzyme-based assays and biosensor development;

  • Measure and model enzyme kinetics to understand reaction mechanisms and guide assay optimization;

  • Develop and optimise protein conjugation methods and linker designs to improve enzyme activity, accessibility and stability;

  • Establish and validate biochemical detection methods, including assessment of sensitivity, reproducibility and robustness;

  • Analyse and interpret experimental data, troubleshoot technical problems and collaborate with an interdisciplinary research team;

  • Prepare manuscripts, research reports and presentations, and contribute to funding applications; and

  • Support research student training, maintain accurate laboratory records and coordinate day-to-day research activities.

 

Candidates

Candidates should possess the following qualifications, experience and competence:

  • Hold a PhD in Chemical Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Protein Biochemistry or Biotechnology, awarded within the past three years. PhD candidates with a strong relevant research background who expect to obtain their degree within the next six months will also be considered;

  • Have practical experience in protein biochemistry, enzyme kinetics, protein conjugation or biosensor development;

  • Demonstrate the ability to design experiments independently, optimise laboratory methods and critically interpret quantitative data;

  • Have good scientific writing and communication skills in English and work effectively within an interdisciplinary team; and

  • Demonstrate research achievements appropriate to their career stage. Experience in kinetic modelling and data analysis using Python, R, MATLAB or equivalent software would be an advantage.
