COMPANY OVERVIEW

• We are the Hong Kong buying office of a well-established U.S.-based fashion group. The group owns and manages a strong portfolio of handbag and small leather goods brands, serving customers across the United States and international markets.

• Our products are sold through major retailers, department stores, specialty stores, online platforms and other distribution channels. We are known for delivering fashionable, good-quality handbags and small leather goods that meet the needs of different customer groups and market segments.

• The Hong Kong office plays a key role in the group’s Asia operations. We support sourcing, product development, production follow-up, quality management, shipping and supplier coordination. We work closely with colleagues in the United States, factories, vendors, freight forwarders and business partners across Asia.

• Our team works with suppliers and factories in Asia to develop and deliver products that meet brand standards, customer expectations, target costs, quality requirements and delivery schedules.

ROLE MISSION

• To develop fashionable and commercially viable handbag and small leather goods collections from concept to final samples.

• You will work closely with designers, product development colleagues, factories and suppliers to ensure that samples meet design intent, quality standards, target costs and delivery schedules.

ROLE SUMMARY

• This is a hands-on product development role for three handbag brands within a U.S. buying office.

• You will manage the development of fashion handbags and small leather goods from initial concept through proto samples, salesman samples and pre-production preparation.

• You will work closely with overseas designers, internal product development and merchandising teams, factories and material suppliers. You will also provide technical advice, manage sample progress, review quality and construction, and negotiate target prices with vendors.

JOB DESCRIPTION

• Work closely with designers, product development colleagues, factories and suppliers to develop handbag and small leather goods collections from concept to samples.

• Manage the development of proto samples, salesman samples and other development samples.

• Follow up on development and sample production schedules to ensure timely delivery of good-quality samples.

• Check sample standards, colours, materials, construction and workmanship at every stage.

• Ensure samples are consistent with the design direction, colour standards and quality requirements of each collection.

• Provide technical advice to factories and suppliers to solve product development and sampling issues.

• Review product construction, production methods, materials and hardware to ensure products are practical and suitable for mass production.

• Negotiate and manage target pricing with vendors to ensure commercial viability and profit margins.

• Work with the merchandising team on bulk production order details and hand over development information smoothly.

• Keep accurate records of sample status, comments, revisions, costs and development progress.

• Build and maintain good working relationships with factories, suppliers and internal teams.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

• At least 8 years of product development experience in fashion handbags and small leather goods.

• Experience working directly with overseas designers to develop design, development and salesman samples.

• Strong technical knowledge of handbag and small leather goods construction and production processes.

• Good knowledge of materials, including PU, jacquard, satin, canvas, fabrics and hardware.

• Familiar with handbag and small leather goods fashion trends.

• Able to review samples carefully and provide practical technical solutions.

• Good negotiation, communication and problem-solving skills.

• A positive team player who can work well with designers, factories and internal teams.

• Good command of English and Chinese, with good spoken Putonghua.
