The newly established Department of Materials (MAT) is seeking a capable, highly motivated individual to provide comprehensive support to the Department.



Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in planning, developing, and commissioning new departmental laboratories, research, teaching, and administrative spaces at HKUST and external campuses.
  • Collaborate closely with faculty members, internal and external stakeholders to consolidate design requirements and technical specifications for departmental laboratories, research, teaching, and administrative spaces.
  • Provide advanced technical assistance, equipment troubleshooting, and operational support to the laboratories and spaces as required.
  • Manage the procurement of laboratory supplies, consumables, and new equipment, and assist in annual budget forecasting and compliance for the laboratories and spaces.
  • Provide training in the use of experimental equipment and facilities to users and ensure smooth instrumental operations.
  • Support departmental safety activities, including safety audits of laboratories, offices, and teaching spaces, and ensure related compliance tasks are met.
  • Serve as the department's technical representative for minor works and liaise with facilities/contractors on technical issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.



Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree with a training background in Materials science, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years' post-qualification experience in project and laboratory management and administration.
  • Familiarity with laboratory safety standards, and safety audit processes.
  • Strong communication, coordination and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.



(Duration: 2 years, renewable)



Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
