Security Specialist (at the rank of IT Officer/IT Technician) for Data and Security Team in the Information Technology Services (ITS) (Ref.: 536781)

Information Technology Services (ITS) provides central IT services to support the University’s teaching, learning, research and administrative activities. ITS is transforming its organization to support its new strategic development and strategic adoption of new technologies. Information about ITS can be obtained at https://its.hku.hk/. 

The Role

The appointee will be responsible for:

• Providing information security, cybersecurity and data protection services to the University community
• Monitoring security operations and providing emergency support in response to cybersecurity incidents
• Operating, managing and supporting security technologies and devices, and collaborating with relevant stakeholders to ensure their effective operation
• Developing, implementing and supporting information security solutions to detect, alert and mitigate cyberattacks and security threats
• Keeping abreast of emerging technologies, cybersecurity threats, regulatory requirements and industry best practices in information security and data protection
• Performing any other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Qualities

Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree or a Higher Diploma in Information Technology (IT) or a related discipline, preferably with relevant IT work experience.

Applicants should have a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese, and good communication, analytical and problem-solving skills; proven ability to execute multiple operational tasks independently and as part of a team according to prescribed guidelines. They should also have solid knowledge and experience in at least two of the following areas:

• Infrastructure and application security
• Operating, monitoring and managing security devices (firewalls, IPS, etc.)
• Security operation and incident response
• IT system auditing, data protection and privacy assessment
• Data protection compliance, privacy management and handling of data access requests

Those with the following knowledge or experience are preferred:

• Organizing training, awareness campaigns or educational programmes related to information security or data protection
• Familiarity with personal data protection regulations and privacy compliance requirements
• Experience in SCORM-based training content authoring/maintenance

Those with lower qualifications and/or less experience may be considered for appointment as IT Technician. 

What We Offer

The appointment will be made on fixed-term full-time contract for 2 years, to commence as soon as possible with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 10% of basic salary. Other benefits include annual leave and medical benefits.
