Master of Laws – Maritime and Transportation Law
City University

Larry Kwok Ming-tat, marine manager at Greater China ACE Insurance, says he had searched for a specialised programme in maritime and transportation law for a long time before his quest finally came to an end in 2010, when City University of Hong Kong introduced the Master of Laws - Maritime and Transportation Law, the first of its kind in Hong Kong.

Dr Vernon Nase, director of the Hong Kong Centre for Maritime and Transportation Law and associate professor of the CityU School of Law, says the programme aims to provide expertise in the field and "add value to service in the maritime sector".

To apply, students are required to have an honours degree in law or are admitted for professional practice of law in Hong Kong or other jurisdiction. Also welcome are those who obtained a common professional examination (CPE) from Britain or Hong Kong, or have obtained a postgraduate certificate in Hong Kong Law, an MA, or a Master of Laws in arbitration and dispute resolution.

"The programme is suitable not only for local students. In the future, we hope to attract more students from around the world," says Nase.

The Hong Kong Maritime Industry Council offers scholarships to outstanding performers in the programme. For the academic year 2011-2012, the one-year full-time mode is offered.
