Helping Hand was formed in 1978 to house a group of homeless elderly. Since then we have established a reputation for being innovative and responsive. Today we care for over 800 elderly in our 3 residential homes, 3 self-care homes, and one in Guangdong Province. In addition, we provide camp service and day care services at our Holiday Centre in Ma On Shan.

 

The needs of the elderly are changing and, working closely with the Social Welfare and other Government departments, our charity will continue to be flexible in our offer of new solutions for their care.

We are looking for a high calibre dynamic and innovative candidate with extensive experience and strong leadership to serve as Executive Director. The Executive Director is accountable to the Executive Committee of Helping Hand with overall responsibility to provide leadership and management of Helping Hand. The responsibility includes but is not limited to supervision of all Helping Hand service units in Hong Kong and China, oversight of its overall financial viability, leadership and development of all staff members, development of the vision, goals and objectives of Helping Hand and direction and services for the future, establishment and maintenance of effective relationships with relevant government authorities, donors, other NGOs and the community.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. To develop and spearhead strategy and planning of Helping Hand, including identifying the needs of the population, formulating and implementing appropriate programmes for elderly care and sourcing requisite funding to implement the programmes. 
  2. To lead the financial planning and exercise prudent financial management of Helping Hand so as to maintain and safeguard the financial health and sustainability of Helping Hand.
  3. To develop proposals and apply to appropriate sources for necessary funding, including the identification of fund raising opportunities and the formulation of strategies for securing funding, whilst ensuring that funds raised are deployed in an accountable and efficient manner. 
  4. To lead and supervise our 300+ administrative and care personnel at Helping Hand and to motivate and develop them, creating a work force that is productive and efficient, building a sense of belonging and quality service, thereby delivering of the objective and mission of Helping Hand. 
  5. To provide an effective communication channel with all committees at Helping Hand, relevant government authorities, other NGOs, and stakeholders and donors to ensure that proper information is imparted and enquiries are promptly attended to.
  6. To be the spokesperson and representative of Helping Hand, meeting with the public, the media, government and relevant authorities and other collaborators and partners.
  7. To promote and inculcate proper governance and best practice through the implementation of appropriate policies and procedures in governing Helping Hand so as to minimise risks that might undermine the viability of Helping Hand and standards and quality of services rendered.
  8. To undertake other duties as assigned by the Chairman or Executive Committee.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIRED

  • A recognized university degree or higher academic or professional qualifications in a relevant discipline such as nursing, social work, health care or management;
  • Over 20 years of successful solid managerial experience at senior level;
  • Proven track record in managing sizable organisation and leading corporate development; 
  • Strong leadership, planning and analytical skills with proactive, tactful and dynamic personality; 
  • Substantial knowledge and experience in the field of caring for the aged; 
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and presentation skills; 
  • Strong Written and verbal communication skills in English and Chinese (including Putonghua)
