The incumbent will provide counseling and support services to high school students to achieve optimum personal, social, emotional, spiritual and academic growth from April 2020 to January 2021.


Key Responsibilities: 

1. Overall counselling services

  • Develop a comprehensive school counseling program by providing in-services seminars, guidance sessions, etc., which incorporate life skills and problem solving skills and encourage students to make positive contributions to their community.
  • Monitor the emotional climate of the school and maintain a positive, nurturing, collaborative and consultative-type relationship with students. Implement developmentally appropriate and prevention-oriented activities that meets students’ needs.
  • Serve as a resource person with teachers, administrators, professional specialists and parents, providing information and assistance where needed for the ultimate benefit of students. Serve as a liaison between students, teachers, and administrators when a conflict arises.
  • Provide orientation for new students and closure activities for departing students. Provide for a smooth transition of students to the next grade, division or university. Provide support and resources for students and families in their transitional phases (e.g. school, home, family, etc.) and serve as crisis management team if needed.
  • Implement an effective referral and follow-up process.
  • Monitor outcomes of the school counseling program activities and share results with Head of Schools/Principals and other relevant stakeholders, as appropriate. Regularly communicate the counseling services to teachers, parents if needed.
  • Accurately review and appropriately maintain student records related to counseling and advisement in a confidential manner.
  • Maintain professional competence and continuous improvement through in service education and other professional growth activities.

2. Academic counselling services

  • Advise students in course selection based on aptitude test results, previous grades, course prerequisites, teacher recommendations and student-parent conferences, if appropriate.
  • Coordinate and administer school-wide standardized testing and provide interpretation of data.
  • Meet with students on academic probation on a regular basis, evaluate the student’s difficulties, collect information from teachers and provide feedback to parents. Monitor deficient grades and intervene by meeting with student, parents, teachers and administrators as needed.
  • Monitor academic performance and other relevant performance data (e.g. behavior, attendance, etc.) and utilize data to provide appropriate interventions for students in need.
  • Collaborate with relevant teachers to ensure students receive appropriate remediation, test preparation, content recovery, credit recovery and other supports to stay on track for graduation, as appropriate.

3. Social and emotional counseling services

  • Provide counsel for student self-referrals and staff-referrals for normal developmental problems. Recognize when a referral is needed and propose appropriate professional services to both student and family. Liaison with community mental health specialists if needed.
  • Initiate group guidance programs and classroom presentations for purposes of discussing peer relations, emotional development, social skills, health and safety, educational information, and transitions.
  • Communicate helpful information to parents and staff in relation to social and emotional development of children and teenagers. Address current situations affecting the student body, and when possible, provide preventative and remedial guidance.

4. Spiritual counseling services

  • Provide guidance that aligns with biblical principles and standards of Christian behavior.
  • Work with the school spiritual life personnel in meeting the spiritual and altruistic needs of students.

5. Collaboration support

  • Assist University Advisors in helping high school students in career exploration and planning, academic and schedule planning, if appropriate.
  • Assist Admissions Office to assess the student’s level of ability in making appropriate grade level and course placements that will provide both challenge and success.


Qualification & Experience:

  • Master degree in counseling from an accredited university.
  • Licensed school counselor would be an advantage.
  • Preferred at least 2 years of school counseling experience.
  • Previous experience in an international school is highly preferred.
  • Previous experience in leading parent and student groups within a culturally diverse setting preferred.

  • Solid knowledge of current counseling practices across the academic, career and social domains.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build a trust relationship with students and parents.
  • Ability to facilitate groups for both students and parents.
  • Ability to manage students effectively. Able to stay calm in difficult situations.
  • High level of personal accountability.
