Shape your own future

In last week's Survival Tips, we examined some of the steps you need to take in order to have full control of your life. This week, we take a closer look at more of the questions you need to be asking yourself if you wish to be fully in command of your future.

One thing you really should ask yourself is what sort of work environment or arrangements would best suit your needs?

Having decided on the right kind of work surroundings and conditions, the next step is to try to determine the key developmental goals you have in mind for managing your career progress.

Having established this set of goals, what you have to do now is to decide who in your network of personal and professional contacts can be useful to you in helping or promoting you.

Another key point to bear in mind is deciding what your relationship web looks like. Who do you feel is closest to you and what is the nature of their connection to you?

Finally, take a long, hard look at deciding what the obstacles are that you face in trying to achieve your career goals and, more importantly, how can you overcome them?

Having taken all these steps, you should be feeling more in control of your own successful destiny.

Next week, we will pay close attention to the steps you need to take in order to ensure effective career management.
