Engineering giant sets career perks

Laing O'Rourke, the rapidly expanding construction solutions provider, has recently established a permanent operational office in Hong Kong and has over a dozen different positions to fill.

"Our goal is to attract and retain highly motivated people to work with us and share in the experience of delivering exceptional and innovative projects and solutions. In return, we offer career development and challenging career opportunities, locally and internationally," says Hong Kong managing director Mike Robins.

With a number of large constructions under way, positions span the whole range of the operations, from receptionist and administrator to architectural design managers and engineers.

"We always ensure that our most talented people are `on the pitch' playing a direct role in our success," Robins says.

The company was founded 30 years ago in Britain on the guiding principles of safety, leading by example, striving to find a better way, teamwork and delivering on promises to make a positive, lasting difference to communities. It has introduced mechanisms for staff support which include an on-line learning management system where staff can enrol in various career development programmes.

"If someone shares our vision and has what it takes to succeed, then we want to hear from them," Robin says. "In return, we promise to stretch, grow, reward and keep them safe as they work for one of the world's most innovative and progressive engineering enterprises."
